gecko

This is a Gold Dust Day Gecko, aka Madagascar Day Gecko (Phelsuma laticauda laticauda).  They eat mosquitoes, which automatically makes them my friends.  Plus they’re cute and entertaining;  e.g., they can walk across the ceiling.  What’s not to love?

  3. Fine looking creature. My first encounter with a gecko was inside a Hawaii condo this past year. Their ability to hang on to anything to walk was remarkable.

    • Lyle,

I’m glad to hear you occasionally leave the frozen hinterlands of Canada to vacation in one of our loveliest states. 😉

This particular species of gecko is one that was introduced to Hawai’i. They, like many of us, found the climate to their liking and decided to be fruitful and multiply.

Much has been written about gecko feet, and the gecko’s amazing ability to walk on smooth vertical surfaces, and even inverted. Perhaps in another post I’ll have a stab at trying to explain it to my readers. Or, maybe I’ll just let it remain a mystery.

Right now I’m feeling lazy and leaning strongly towards option # 2! 😉

      Stay warm! 🙂

      • Yes we occasionally leave but we also have seasons. Yesterday was a beautiful day – lots of sun, no wind and reasonable cool.
