No trip to the Palouse would be complete without a visit to Uniontown and the famous wheel fence which surrounds the Dahmen Barn. Steve Dahmen built the fence over 30 years.
The fence consists of over 1,000 wheels, all welded together.
Big wheels, little wheels, wheels with spokes, wheels with gears, fat wheels, skinny wheels…the list goes on…and on…and on…
The wheel fence surrounds a beautiful old barn that’s been turned into a three-story artist studio and gallery. I’ll show you the barn in another post. Today it’s just wheels.
I love the dainty elegance of the gate. Obviously thinner and lighter wheels were appropriate, while the bigger, thicker and heavier wheels comprise the bottom layer of the fence, with smaller wheels balanced on top, seeming ready to roll off down the road.
And across the road, just a row of wheels that seems to roll on forever…

Thanks Nonoy. Very fun to walk along the fence and check out all the different types of wheels. Countless photo-ops!

Hi James,
Yes, the fence is cool, and I think you’ll like the barn as well. Will do a post about the barn soon.
